Description by Strachan Group Architects & Rachael Rush Context On a constrained, compact city website, a stones throw from Takapuna Beach, the three-stepped gables of those black ‘boatsheds’ appropriately reference our boating and seashore tradition. The sliding types reveal an answer past the usual connotations of a house, a bespoke incubator for the shoppers’ way of life. The nook website, challenged by two 5m (sixteen.A ft) entrance yards and the blunt presence of a 3-storey neighbour exhausting on the North-West boundary, stimulated an strategy of layered complexity with ample transparency to seize mild, solar and glimpses of the pohutukawa and baiting ocean. Design Simplicity of the outside type is contrasted by the extremely crafted timber inside, exhibiting the expert artistry of the builder. A numerous succession of multi-related areas create a threaded stream of motion, while every maintains a definite and sequestered high quality. The home opens and closes in response to shifts in climate and programme, with partitions that raise, fall, slide, fold, shut down or disappear. This is a home with intent to interact the viewer, the seen and the operator with sense and intrigue.
