Under construction in Bay Harbor, Florida, is this 5,810-square-foot single family home, targeted for completion in 2015 and designed by KZ Architecture. Probably the most distinctive feature of this home, one you notice almost immediately, is the openwork lattice that’s used as dividers between rooms, as a subtle privacy barrier, and yet at the same time gives the home an open, airy feeling that belies its very practical use. This openwork is a continuing architectural detail over three levels of the home; it graces the wood walls at the front façade as a dramatic up-lighted accent, then provides part of an outdoor feature wall in the back yard, adjacent to the infinity-edge pool. Set upon a deep and sloping lot, the home appears to float on its site through use of broad terraces that bridge the gaps between levels.

Here is where you’ll see ample space for entertaining a crowd: a sheltered lounge area on one side, a breathtaking pool on the other, and at the base of it all, lush green lawn. Water plays a key décor role here as well: the view out an upstairs bedroom is straight onto the bay, with an unbroken vista of swaying palms, sunshine, and ocean. The interior of the home is streamlined, minimalist, and uncluttered, with a central staircase leading to a glass-railed gallery mezzanine where the client’s modern art collection can be displayed to splendid advantage. With pure-white interiors, the client’s personal possessions will have pride of place; that being said, the easy indoor/outdoor living here will be the “star” of the show. Space, air, light, and splendid water features: they’re all part of this dream home from KZ Architecture.
